CEREC Same-Day Crowns

Get a dental crown in a single appointment!

Did you know you can get a custom crown in just one visit? With 3D imaging technology and an in-office milling unit, we can produce and place a quality crown all in one day. Make life easy with CEREC technology at Dreier Family Dental.

The CEREC Process

During your appointment, Dr. Dreier will first evaluate your overall oral health. A 3D digital scanner is used to get an accurate image of your entire mouth and the tooth to be crowned. These scans are sent to our in-office milling unit, which creates a perfectly fitting crown. The crown will also be tinted to match the color of your natural teeth, creating a seamless and subtle restoration.

Why CEREC Same-Day Crowns?

Digital scans eliminate the need for messy impressions, and are more accurate than casts and molds. The scans and milling unit work together, making the creation process easier and faster. A dental crown can be made in minutes rather than weeks. And best of all, the crown is a single structure of durable ceramic, giving it integrity, strength and beauty.

What Are The Benefits Of CEREC?

CEREC is a revolutionary dental technology, and they enhance patient experience if you are in need of a crown. Here a few benefits you’ll enjoy when you get a CEREC same-day crown from Dreier Family Dental:

  • Get treatment in a single appointment – Traditionally, you’d have to wait several weeks for a crown to be placed permanently because an outside lab would have to create it. But with CEREC, Dr. Dreier can build your crown right here in our office, in just a few minutes!
  • No need for dental impressions – Some patients find dental impressions to be uncomfortable, especially those who may have a strong gag reflex. CEREC uses a special camera and a powder to take a 3D image of your mouth, with no goopy dental impressions required!
  • Avoid wearing a temporary crown – In the past, you’d have to wear a temporary crown while waiting for your permanent crown to arrive at our office. These can be a bit uncomfortable and inconvenient to wear. With CEREC, temporary crowns are a thing of the past.
  • Less tooth material must be removed – The highly-accurate CEREC scan usually allows us to preserve more of your natural enamel when placing a crown so you can preserve more of your tooth during the treatment.

How Does CEREC Work?

When you come in for a CEREC appointment, your mouth will be cleaned and prepared just like it would be for a normal dental crown. Then, instead of taking a dental impression, one of our doctors will coat your teeth with a special powder and take a 3D scan with a CEREC camera.

This scan is then uploaded into our CEREC 3D CAD/CAM milling machine, where a porcelain block is carved and shaped to fit perfectly over your tooth and match the color of your surrounding teeth perfectly.  One of our dentists will check your crown for fit and finish, and it will be placed permanently onto your tooth, completing the procedure.

Understanding The Treatments That Incorporate CEREC

CEREC technology is most commonly used for crowns. However, CEREC can be used to create a variety of other ceramic dental restorations. This includes porcelain veneers, as well as inlays and onlays.

How CEREC Revolutionizes Dentistry – Understanding Its Importance

CEREC has had a big impact on modern dentistry. The primary reason that it’s such a revolutionary technology is that it allows dentists to take control of every step of the treatment process, and avoid using third-party dental laboratories to create dental prostheses.

Using CEREC, dentists can provide all-in-one treatment to their patients, and remain in control throughout the entire procedure. This results in better patient outcomes, faster appointments, and less time waiting for dental prostheses to be built by third parties.

CEREC vs. Traditional Crowns

For most people, CEREC crowns are the best way to restore their smile, for all of the reasons that we’ve outlined on this page. They’re fast, affordable, and look and feel totally natural. They also don’t require traditional dental impressions, or a long waiting period as your crown is built.

However, this is not to say that CEREC is always better than traditional crowns. Traditional, lab-made crowns do have some unique benefits that may be helpful in some situations.

To start with, lab-made crowns are usually made with a metal-fused-to-porcelain design. This means that the base is metal, and the crown is built with a porcelain “shell.” Since metal is not as brittle as ceramic, this means that the crown may be more durable, and lab-made crowns tend to have a longer overall lifespan.

In addition to this, lab-made crowns can be built with a keener eye for detail. The casting process that is used to create the crown lets the lab technician make small adjustments and changes that make the tooth look even more natural. While CEREC crowns still look and feel very natural, traditional crowns are usually a little bit more precise in this regard.

Finally, CEREC crowns may not be appropriate for severe cases of tooth damage when the tooth is broken off below the gum line. This is because the 3D scanner used in the CEREC procedure cannot capture an accurate image of the tooth in this situation. A traditional crown may be better, in this case.Overall, though, CEREC crowns are the better option for most people who have a large cavity, an infected tooth, or a damaged tooth. They’re convenient, affordable, and provide excellent patient outcomes overall. Contact Dreier Family Dental to learn more and see if you’re a good candidate for a CEREC crown.

Caring For Your CEREC Crown

One of the best things about CEREC crowns and dental crowns in general is that they require no special care. You can treat your new CEREC crown just like a natural tooth. To care for your crown, all you have to do is maintain good at-home oral hygiene.

That means you should brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes, floss once per day, and make sure you eat a healthy diet. You may also want to consider incorporating mouthwash into your daily oral care routine. You should avoid sugary drinks and foods as much as possible, and consider cutting back on your alcohol intake and quitting smoking or tobacco use.

You also should see Dr. Brandon Dreier for consultations every six months at Dreier Family Dental. During your routine checkup, Dr. Dreier will examine your teeth and your dental work to make sure that your mouth is healthy. If he notices an issue with your crown, he can schedule a follow-up to replace or repair it. As long as you take good care of your oral health and your CEREC crown, it’s sure to last you for years to come.
