ClearCorrect and Traditional Braces: A Comparison

If you’re thinking about getting orthodontic treatment at Dreier Family Dental, you may be wondering what the best option is for your particular needs. If you’re an older teen or adult, you may be interested in ClearCorrect for its clear plastic aligners that will make your treatment virtually invisible. This treatment is becoming much more popular with those who wish to avoid the social stigma and discomfort of traditional metal braces.

Treatment time is another big factor. Many patients are curious about whether ClearCorrect works more quickly than braces. Here’s a few things to keep in mind about ClearCorrect:

ClearCorrect Treatment Is Typically Much Faster Than Braces

Each set of ClearCorrect aligners is usually worn for about 2 weeks, and the average treatment usually takes around 20-24 sets of aligners. This means that most treatments with ClearCorrect take about a year, though some can take up to 18 months.

In contrast, braces usually take at least 18 months to provide orthodontic results, and in some cases, they may need be worn for up to 3 years. ClearCorrect is usually a much faster treatment option than traditional, metal braces.

ClearCorrect Is Not Always The Right Orthodontic Option

ClearCorrect is the best choice for patients who have minor-to-moderate orthodontic problems, such as slightly gapped or crooked teeth, minor tooth misalignments, and other such issues.

However, it cannot be used to treat most bite problems, severely rotated or misaligned teeth, or extremely large gaps in the teeth. While braces do require a larger treatment time, they are a much better choice for severe orthodontic problems.

Only an experienced dentist can examine your mouth, and determine if you are eligible for treatment with ClearCorrect. That’s why we recommend seeing Dr. Dreier, Dr. Winter, or Dr. Winter to help you understand which orthodontic options are best for you.

Tips For A Faster ClearCorrect Treatment Process

Wondering how you can make sure your ClearCorrect treatment goes quickly and smoothly? Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Follow your dentist’s instructions – You’ll see one of our dentists about every 6 weeks for a check up, and to receive new sets of ClearCorrect aligners. Always follow their instructions to make sure your treatment progresses properly.
  • Wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day – Your aligners should only be removed to eat and drink, and to brush and floss. Wearing them for 22 hours per day is essential to ensure that your treatment is not delayed.
  • Be careful with your aligners – If you break one of your aligners, you may need to wait a week or two for a replacement, which can derail your progress. Be gentle with them and clean them properly. Keep your aligners in storage cases when you’re not wearing them, and do everything you can to avoid dropping them.
