Dental Bridges in Janesville

Restore Your Smile Without Invasive Surgery

Dental bridges are a great alternative to other methods of restoring your missing teeth, such as dental implants and partial dentures. With a dental bridge, you can restore one or more missing teeth in just a few appointments with Dr. Dreier or Dr. Larson at Dreier Family Dental. To get started, schedule your consultation today.

What Is a Dental Bridge? Understanding the Basics

There are a few different types of dental bridges, but the most common is called a “fixed bridge.” This type of bridge uses two dental crowns, which attach to healthy “abutment” teeth next to your missing tooth.

These crowns are permanently attached to the abutment teeth. Suspended between these crowns is a “pontic” or false tooth. The false tooth “bridges” the gap where your missing tooth used to be, which is what gives dental bridges their name.

A dental bridge is a good option if you are missing one or more teeth, but you are not interested in a partial denture, or surgical treatment such as a dental implant. Bridges don’t move or shift, unlike dentures, and they do not require any invasive surgery.

What Can I Expect From the Dental Bridge Process?

The process of receiving a dental bridge usually takes at least two appointments with Dr. Dreier or Dr. Larson. After your doctor has confirmed that you’re a good candidate for a dental bridge, you’ll come in for your first appointment. One of our doctors will clean your teeth and numb your mouth.

Then, your doctor will trim down the abutment teeth using a dental drill, to prepare them for dental crowns. Once these teeth have been trimmed, dental impressions and images of your teeth will be taken. This information will be sent to a third-party lab, where a bridge will be made to fit your mouth.

The process of creating your bridge will usually take 2-3 weeks. During this time, you will wear a temporary bridge or crowns to protect your newly-trimmed teeth. Once your bridge has been completed and it arrives at our office, you’ll come in for your second appointment.

Your bridge will be checked to make sure it fits properly, and minor adjustments can be made, if necessary. Then, it will be bonded permanently into place with dental cement, completing the procedure.

The Benefits of Dental Bridges

Compared to other treatments like dental implants and partial bridges, dental bridges have some unique benefits.

  • Minimally-invasive – No invasive surgery is required, just the removal of some enamel from the teeth adjacent to your missing tooth.
  • Restore multiple teeth – Dental bridges can be used to restore 2+ adjacent missing teeth, in some cases, which lets you restore your smile with just a single treatment.
  • Fast results – Dental implants may take multiple appointments over 3-6 months, but bridges usually only take a few weeks, making them a better option if you want fast results.
  • Affordable – Dental bridges are usually more affordable than dental implants and are covered by dental insurance in most cases.

For these reasons and quite a few more, a dental bridge is a good way to restore your smile. Contact the team at Dreier Family Dental now to learn more, and schedule your appointment.
